The best book you’ll read in 2013

There are a million things I love about writing for a living, but one of the top perks is that writers tend to collect writer friends; and the side-effect of that is that we get to read amazing books, not long after they’re a twinkle in the author’s eye.

One of the very best novels I’ve read this year is by an author you haven’t heard of–yet.

But you will hear about her soon. Oh yes, you will. Because Jamie Mason’s novel, THREE GRAVES FULL, sold to Gallery Books (Simon & Schuster) recently.

It’s good. It’s so good. Jamie’s one of those writers who can do it all: true-to-life characters, compelling story, and delicious prose that enhances and never detracts.

I cried when she told me her amazing news. Her sale is so very much deserved. Yay, Jamie!

‘Humbled’ is a weird word, because you make me feel quite proud and even more so, because I know what you’ve done with your superb WHITE HORSE. But that the compliment is coming from you puts the blush in the whole thing.

Congrats are more than due to both of you. You both deserve wonderful things, you’ve worked so freakin’ hard.
“Liar’s Margin” is an outstanding tale, and a great ride. Jamie’s journey is a pretty amazing tale, as well.

I have just completed reading White Horse – a pre-publication issue – to help develop questions for book club discussions to be included at the back of the book. Alex – I loved this book. The language is wonderful, the story strong and
compelling, the characters believable and well-defined. I think you’ll have a hit on your hands…
